Today in Things That Are Not Really That Fun:

So, I came into work to find that our circ software has been going up and down all day. And that the person who normally covers lunches in the children's library is gone. Okay, that's fine. I can cover people's lunch breaks. And hey, five minutes after I get in, the circ software comes up.

But then, 10 minutes after that, the class from the Catholic school across the street comes in. And, okay, they do that every Friday, but I'm normally not the only one here at the time. And none of them ever have their library cards and none of them ever think to tell you that when they come up to the desk, so there's 20 of them in line and with every one I get to go, "Do you have your card? No? Okay, what's your name? Can you spell your last name for me? Slower please - it's very impressive that you can spell it that fast, but it's not actually all that helpful."

And then, after I've gotten 5 of them checked out and I'm running a search for number 6, the circ software goes down again. So now the only thing I can do is check out people who actually have cards. Which is none of them. Not that any of them listen when I make an announcement to that effect, so I get to tell each of them individually that no, I cannot look them up by their name and they can't check out today. Or renew their books.

They are gone now, thank the gods.
