Dear teenager,

I think it is awesome that you want to learn things independently! Independent learning is great! And it is also awesome that you want to ask library staff for help.

However. If you are looking for books on military strategy in ancient Rome, it would probably work a little better if you did not ask for books on medieval military strategy. Because those two things are different and are thus going to be covered in different books.

Also, this might work a little better if you had a library card. Or, at least, if you had told me that you don't have a library card when I asked you.

That's the joys of working with kids - they trend to get their order wrong and they don't know when they're not best what they are looking for. It's what the reference interview was made for...

I think when I was in high school medieval and ancient were covered in one class and ancient took up 9/10ths of the class time. So I can see getting confused there and not realizing they are two different things.
