So, we have this shelf of books that were donations and that our Friends of the Library books sells. It has a box for the money and a list of prices and a really big sign that says Books For Sale in bright red letters.

A patron just walked over to the desk, pointed to that shelf, and said, "Are those books for sale?"

...

I don't know why it still surprises me that people just don't read signs, but it does. Every single time.

With time, the surprise goes away. It then gets replaced by weariness.

I do always wonder if there are a lot more people in the world who actually can't read than I have been led to believe.
