Dec. 19th, 2011 07:07 amYesterday was Revels day for the household, so we all bundled down to Tacoma. I love the Christmas revels - I love traditional music and old customs and I love seeing them remembered in the Revels. This year was Bavarian Revels, so we got Sankt Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht and Frau Holle and Perchta and a mummer's play with Siegfried instead of St George. If you live in one of cities in the US where they do Revels and they sound like something you'd enjoy, I really do highly recommend going if you can. Even if - possibly especially if - you're a person of a pagan persuasion. I have always found them very pagan-friendly. Some of the songs may be about Jesus, but the overall feel is a longing for the return of the sun, a remembering of old traditions, and a desire to feast and celebrate with family and friends. It's a good time, and there's Morris dancing.
And today, I am making many many tiny meat pies (to have for the week, for those times when we are too busy for actual cooking). I made the crust on Friday and the fillings last night, so all I have to do this morning is roll out the crusts, stick them in muffin tins, fill them, and bake them.
And this afternoon, I am going to see the Sherlock Holmes movie. Hurrah.
