Oct. 2nd, 2011 04:38 pmThe problem with mostly having taken piano lessons through middle school and high school is that the vast majority of music I have that is not exercise books is from musicals that I was, at that time, obsessed with.
The good thing about no one else being home is that I can spend an hour or so, playing melodramatic show tunes as loud as I want. Heh. Oh gods, Jekyll and Hyde - so terrible, so much fun.
Muscle memory is really kind of amazing - I haven't played these songs in years and I'm still about as good at them as I ever was. Which means that the finale to This is the Moment still really sucks (but is still really fun to play really loud) but the first three pages or so are pretty good. Y'know, in a "playing show tunes on the piano when no one else is around" sort of way.

Date: 2011-10-03 01:26 am (UTC)...I don't ever listen to it with anyone around, any more, and I don't run around quoting it, and I can barely listen to it with a straight face because of how absurd it is, but there are some of the songs that -- if I'm alone, and don't have to get all embarrassed and flustered trying to justify my love for it to other people - will sweep me back to that all-consuming ♥LOVE♥.
(and then it springs up with one of the "OMG I HATE JEKYLL AND WILL MAKE HIM PAAAAY" type lines and I just do a mental facepalm. :D)

J&H is cheese but it's lovely cheese.
