darchildre: rebis in a purple trenchcoat, looking enigmatic (rebis says:)

I am having something of a "food is disgusting" weekend. So I am going to say mean things about common foodstuffs in this post. My parents always taught me that was terribly rude, so here is your option to scroll on by.

See, my sister made chicken broth from scratch last night, and it simmered on the stove for hours, filling the house with that awful meaty smell that coats your tongue and makes you feel like you're swimming through chicken fat. And this morning, I went into the kitchen to feed the dog and the broth is in a huge bowl and my mom is skimming the fat off it and man, I just couldn't be there.

Broth is gross, you guys. It glistens unpleasantly and it has that terrible three dimensional smell and it's awful. I don't understand how people can eat it - soup is pretty much incomprehensible to me, honestly. (I get how people can cook with broth because cooking is a strange alchemy in which objectionable things become okay when subsumed in other things.) The idea of chicken broth - any broth, really - literally makes my stomach turn over.

Truly, I'm not a ridiculously picky eater because I'm just finicky or difficult. I'm a ridiculously picky eater because I find many many common foodstuffs to be viscerally disgusting.

If the kitchen still smells like chicken broth this morning, I may end up having to be meatless today. Eurgh.
