Jul. 3rd, 2011 11:19 amI've realized, over the past month or so, that I really miss going to church. Not that I necessarily miss the church I used to go, but that I miss getting up on Sunday and taking part in regular, ritualized worship services. But I knew I didn't want to go to a Christian church because, y'know, I'm not Christian and so I have two options with that: lie or have people try to convert me. Neither of those is attractive. So I thought about trying the Unitarian Universalist church on Bainbridge. I made a mental list of the things I wanted to get out of going to church, the things I really missed: 1) regular worship time, 2) hymn singing, 3) responsive group prayer/reading, 4) some sort of ritual.
This morning, I went to the Unitarian church. I got numbers 2 through 4 and continuing to attend would handle number 1. I can't judge the sermons at this church yet because the pastors are on vacation but, well, you'll notice that "good sermons" wasn't a necessary part of the list. So I'm pretty happy. I'm planning to go back next week.
