Feb. 12th, 2011 10:05 pmI am...not happy about the pregnancy plot. In general, I trust Fringe, but I have yet to see a pregnancy plot on any sci-fi show really work out well (well, except DS9, I guess) and so I am terribly leery about it. Also, I liked Frank and I am sorry to see him hurt. Though creepy-granddad!Walternate is kind of an awesome thing.
Also! Okay, so I love our Olivia and Peter and Walter and everyone but man, I would totally watch the Fringe that's set in the alternate universe. Because I possibly love alternate universe!Charlie even more than I loved the original and Lincoln Lee is awesome and I want so many stories where Olivia-and-Charlie-and-Lincoln have adventures and solve mysteries and are partners. Since there is not actually an alternate universe show, there should probably be reams and reams of fanfic. Someone should get on that.
I also want this because I love alternate universes and the one on Fringe is really intriguing. I also want reams and reams of just world-building details. I want to know all the ways the universe was different before Walter happened. I want to know all the terrible things that have happened because of Walter. And I am fascinated by this alternate universe because, honestly, there is no really good reason why we are the good guys in this conflict. Walter broke their universe - we are the aggressors in this war. And yeah, the creeping fascism, that's no good - but how much of that is ultimately our fault? We're rooting for our side mostly because we met them first and so we know them and we love them. If we'd met the other guys first, wouldn't we be on their side? Don't they, in fact, have the better claim? Which is why I was disappointed with the Fauxlivia-in-our-universe episodes - she should have had something to say about that, instead of suddenly turning sort of 2-dimensionally evil. Fringe is usually better about that kind of ambivalence.
Related to the war-between-universes, and this may have been something that I just missed somehow, but...what ever happened to the ZFT? I mean, if we are going to actually fight against the other universe and that was, y'know, kinda their mission statement, shouldn't we still be seeing them? Did they all die out with David Robert Jones? I have been wondering about that. It feels like a loose end.
Anyway. To end on a totally shallow note: Joan Chen! Hello, Josie Packard! You are still amazingly beautiful. I hope we see you again.
