Dear adorable preteen boy who asked me for Avatar: the Last Airbender books,

I feel a little sad because I'm pretty sure you're going to go see the movie and it's going to be terrible but mostly I am filled with love for you because you have shaved an arrow into your hair.

Fanboy, you have made my day. I'm sorry the movie sucks but hey, at least the cartoon was just that awesome, right?

Wait, what? The movie sucks? I haven't really been checking, but aside from the lame casting I was hoping they could somehow make it work. I loved that show, great to watch with the kiddos back in the day.

In the interest of fairness, I will admit that I haven't seen it (and have no intention of doing so). However, I have yet to see a single review that says anything remotely positive.

Wow, I checked the RottenTomatoes.com rating and seems you're right. All good attentions seem to have been for naught and the movie has come out clunky and slow to say the least. Don't know if I'll be seeing it now, maybe when it hits the cheapie theather.

I was thinking the same thing about my nieces.
Both adored Avatar: the Last Airbender, and will be SO disappointed with the movie...
You can't whitewash a story like this one without destroying its essence...
