Yesterday, I joined paperbackswap because, hell, who doesn't need more books, right? And it prompts me to get rid of some of the books I have that I never read. I'm not terribly good at giving them to Goodwill and I can't throw books away. So this works out.

And someone had Dark Gods by T E D Klein, which I've only been wanting for, let's see, when was it I first read The Ceremonies? Years ago. So that is terribly exciting.

Have you guys read The Ceremonies? (I ask about that one as it seems to be more readily available.) It is awesome. It was one of those books that I first found in a junk store and bought for probably fifty cents but unlike the vast majority of those, it is actually really good. It's...I would call it Lovecraftian horror but that's not really true. It is Arthur Machen horror. (And if you are a horror fan who hasn't read Arthur Machen, why are you sitting here listening to me? Both The White People and The Great God Pan are readily available online. Go, read. Much better writing than my blog post.) It is squirmy and twisty and full of secret things. It has one of the best creepy nursery rhymes I've ever read. And one of the protagonists is writing a paper on gothic literature, so if you ever needed an easy reference guide to early horror, wrapped in an excellent horror story itself, this is great go-to book. 8)

Alas that Mr Klein has only written the one novel and a handful of short stories. But at least now I get to read more of the short stories.
