Today, I think, is better than yesterday.

I spent a lot of time yesterday reciting Suzanne Vega's Small Blue Thing to myself, which is my Song for Overstimulated Times. Oddly, I once found a comment on the lyrics where the listener interpreted it as a love song, which is so alien to the way I hear the song that it's kind of amazing. I mean, to me it is so obviously a song about being wholly and solidly one's self (with my knees against my mouth I am perfectly round), not responding to touch (I am cold against your fingers), not showing anything of what's inside (you are perfectly reflected), not influenced by the outside (I am cool and smooth and curious, I never blink).

We spread ourselves so thin, sometimes. It is occasionally necessary to curl up small, to turn our eyes inward, to be alone and quiet.

Here, have a song.
